10 antivirus programs for Windows 7

Anyone considering Windows 7 needs to assure themselves that the software they are running will work under Windows 7. One way is to try and see. Another is to go to the manufacturer’s web site and see if they support W7 or have an update or upgrade that does.

If a program doesn’t install, you can try installing it via the “Troubleshoot Compatibility” option (available by right clicking on the executable) or as a last resort use the new XP Mode (available only on certain versions).

With Anti Virus software, that really isn’t practical or desirable. You want the software compatible with the OS natively. Here’s a nice summary by Greg Shultz from TechRepublic of 10 AV programs that are supported under W7. Included are some good facts to help you decide.

In case you are wondering, I use Kaspersky Internet Security suite and I’m very happy with it. However, “Free'” is attractive and both AVG and Avast (as well as Avira) are both well thought of in the user community…
